Night Owl Reference Service Ceases June 30th

The regional Night Owl Reference service is ceasing operation at the end of the day June 30th. You can still get those late night reference questions answered through AskAway, our chat reference service which is available 24/7 every day of the year. Email us any time – but questions received after the library closes will receive a reply when we open in the morning. Just click on the Ask Us button on the left side of the homepage.


Limited Edition Big Band – Town Square

Under the direction of band leader Richard Gulbrandsen, the Limited Edition Big Band joins us with an extensive musical selection of big band, swing, jazz and dance arrangements. Vocalist: Julie Ann Caselli. For more information go to the June issue of Musically Yours.

Hanover Park Branch Closed – June 24th

The Hanover Park Branch closed at noon due to broken air conditioning and excessive heat in the building. The marionette show at 1:00 was moved to the Central Library Rasmussen Room at 1:30 pm.

STDL Employee to be Honored as Parade Marshall

Jane Davey, Coordinator at the Hoffman Estates Branch Library, has been honored by Mayor McLeod to be the Parade Marshall for the Hoffman Estates 4th of July parade.  This year Hoffman Estates is celebrating their 50th anniversary and Jane Davey is one of the original residents of Hoffman Estates, plus she celebrated her 40 years with our library.  Congratulations, Jane!

Travel and vacation season is a great time to listen to audiobooks on the road or at the beach!  Find downloadable audiobooks on our website under Digital Media. Register for  a class on downloading , Thursday, June 25th from 7-8:30 P.M. in the  Rasmussen South Room by calling the Info/Magazine Desk at 847-923-3347.

Free Amplified Phone Demonstration – June 20th

On Saturday, June 20th, 11-3 pm, the Schaumburg Township Disability Services and the Library Extension Services will host a demonstration of the free, amplified phones from the Illinois Telecommunications Access Corp.  Residents will be able to do a “live” test call on each of the 4 phones and select which one they hear most clearly on. They are free to qualified IL residents with a certified hearing loss.
