Daily Herald Film Critic Dann Gire and award-winning author Raymond Benson will show film clips and lead a lively discussion about Science Fiction films from 1960 to the present.

STDL Online Program Guide Update

The STDL Online Program Guide, which provides detailed information about the variety of programs and classes available at the library, has been updated! The Online Program Guide is released bimonthly and the latest edition covers April through May 2008.

Portrait of a Soldier Exhibit Featured in the News

The moving exhibit “Portrait of a Soldier” currently on display in the library was just featured in the news. View the story and video from WLS-TV / ABC News. “Portrait of a Soldier” has also been featured in the Daily Herald article, “Portraits of True Patriots“.

Portrait of a Soldier Exhibit

This exhibit consists of 130 pencil drawings of Illinois military men and women who have died since September 11, 2001. The work by artist Cameron Schilling will be on display from Friday, March 28 to Thursday, April 3 on the 1st floor in the New Books & Fiction Room. The exhibit is sponsored by the office of  Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn. There will be a brief ceremony on Friday March 28 at 10:30 A.M.

20-20-20 — Dialog, Plot, Research

Author Libby Fischer Hellmann (A Shot to Die For, Chicago Blues) will present basic guidelines for writing dialog, developing plot and doing research. Although the examples are geared to crime fiction, every writer will find useful tips. Call the Information Desk at 847-923-3347 to register.

Tutor.com – Students in grades 4-12 and college can get free online tutoring for math, science, social studies or English. Tutoring is available Sunday through Thursday from 3:00 P. M. to 10:00 P. M. Just click on the Live Homework Help icon on the right side of the STDL homepage.

Money Smart Week

Money Smart Week is coming soon! On Monday, April 21, start the week off right with Ready, Set, Retire. Two specialists will cover the important topic of retirement preparedness. Register with the Information/Magazines Desk or call  874-923-3347.

Library Closing
